6.2.26 LARGE COLLECTIBLE ONLINE ONLY AUCTION
Lot 62:
Description
This mechanical wind-up toy features a lithographed tin elephant seated on a three-wheeled scooter, balancing a large translucent orange textured plastic ball on its trunk. The elephant is decorated with a vibrant ceremonial circus blanket and headpiece featuring red, orange, and yellow patterns with star-like motifs. The elephant’s body is finished in grey lithography with detailed skin textures. The scooter is constructed of yellow lithographed tin with black plastic wheels and unpainted metal handlebars. A built-in clockwork winding key is located on the right side of the scooter’s rear axle. While there are markings present on the lower rear edge of the elephant’s body, they are not clearly legible. The toy’s design and construction are consistent with German tin toys produced in the mid-20th century.
Condition report:
The toy is in good vintage condition with evidence of age and play. There is moderate scuffing and paint loss across the yellow scooter base and along the seams of the elephant\'s body. Surface oxidation is visible on the unpainted metal components, including the handlebars, wheel axles, and winding key. The lithographed colors on the elephant remain bright. The orange plastic ball is present and in good condition. The winding mechanism is present but has not been tested for continuous movement.
