Description

This item is a vintage circus-themed counter display or standee featuring a lithographed image of a performing elephant. The elephant is depicted in profile, wearing a decorative caparison adorned with playing card suits: a red heart, a black club, a red diamond, and a black spade. The elephant holds a small golden-toned bell in its curled trunk, and a large graphic of a strawberry ice cream cone is positioned at the base near the front. The display is constructed from heavy die-cut paperboard with a lithographed front. The reverse features an attached cardboard easel stand designed for upright tabletop display. There are no maker marks, brand names, or dates visible on the item. The illustration style and lithographic color palette are characteristic of American circus and carnival ephemera from the early to mid-20th century.

Condition report:

The item is in fair to good vintage condition. The front of the display retains relatively vibrant colors with general age-related toning. There is minor wear and small losses visible along the die-cut edges, specifically at the tip of the tusk and along the upper edge. The reverse shows significant age-related foxing, spotting, and areas of moisture staining. The cardboard easel stand remains intact and attached for display.
