6.2.26 LARGE COLLECTIBLE ONLINE ONLY AUCTION
Lot 122a:
Description
This vintage counter-top advertising display, or standee, is constructed of die-cut cardboard and dates from the mid-20th century. It was designed for point-of-sale use in an ice cream parlor or soda fountain. The piece features a colorful illustration of a circus elephant in profile, wearing a ruffled blue and yellow collar and a fringed saddle blanket in red, yellow, and blue. A gold-toned pedestal bowl filled with vanilla ice cream and red syrup rests on the elephant’s back. The elephant’s front right leg is raised on a yellow drum atop a striped pedestal, and its trunk holds a mallet. The scene is set against a dark green base. The reverse consists of plain, light-buff cardboard with an integrated triangular easel stand for upright display.
Condition report:
The front graphic shows good color retention and remains bright. Light wear and minor abrasions are visible along the die-cut edges. The reverse side shows significant and extensive foxing with brown age-related spotting across the entire surface. The cardboard remains structurally sound, and the easel back is intact, though it has been previously folded.
