5.28.26 MAY ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 451:
Description
This two-piece miniature pressed glass covered dish is a novelty item in the traditional Hen on Nest pattern, frequently utilized as a salt cellar or salt dip. The set features a lid in the shape of a sitting hen and a base molded into a woven basket-style nest. The item is crafted from translucent aqua blue glass with a heavy stippled or orange peel texture applied to the entire exterior surface. This style and texture are characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century American art glass production and resemble pieces produced by factories such as Boyd, Mosser, or Wilkerson Glass. No maker mark, embossed symbol, or factory signature was found on either the lid or the base during visual inspection. The lid features a detailed comb and tail feathers, while the base has a scalloped rim designed to receive the lid.
Height: 1.5 inches.
Condition report:
The item is in good condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the delicate points of the hen lid or the scalloped edges of the nest base. The stippled texture remains uniform across both pieces.
