5.28.26 MAY ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 435:
Description
This lot comprises a vintage hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton quilt and a group of science fiction trading cards. The quilt is executed in the Grandmother’s Fan pattern, featuring repeating fan-shaped motifs constructed from various patterned and solid colorful fabrics set against a pale pink field. The center is surrounded by a swirled pink patterned inner border and a wide, bright pink quilted outer border. The reverse of the textile is finished in a pink and white gingham patterned fabric. Accompanying the quilt is a collection of vintage trading cards from 1967 based on the Planet of the Apes film franchise. These cards were produced by Topps Chewing Gum (T.C.G.) and bear copyright marks for Apjac Productions and 20th Century Fox Film Corp. The cards feature color production stills on the obverse with dialogue bubbles such as GORILLAS CATCH ON and A FATEFUL NOISE. The reverse of the cards provides narrative text and puzzle piece imagery, including card number 23 titled THE KEY. The cards are housed in clear plastic protective cases. A yellow inventory tag marked with number 436 is included with the lot.
Condition report:
The quilt shows significant and widespread brown staining and discoloration on both the front and the reverse. There is general wear and fading consistent with age and use. The trading cards exhibit moderate wear to the corners and edges, with some surface scuffing and age-related toning visible through the protective cases.
