Description

This is a hand-quilted and pieced cotton scrap quilt, likely dating to the mid-20th century. The quilt features a repeating Shoofly variation pattern arranged in a 5×6 grid, totaling 30 blocks. Each block is composed of a central white square with four triangular points fashioned from assorted scrap fabrics, including colorful plaids, ginghams, and small-scale calico floral prints. These blocks are set within a bold red sashing highlighted by teal-colored cornerstones. The textile is hand-quilted with visible running stitches in a diagonal grid pattern across the white fields and sashing. The reverse side is finished with a solid white cotton fabric. The quilt contains cotton batting. No maker’s marks or labels are present.

Condition report:

The quilt is in good vintage condition showing signs of age and use. There is overall wrinkling and light surface wear. A small, localized brown stain is visible on the white reverse side near the center. Minor fraying and some loose threads are present along the edges and sashing seams. The white background fabric exhibits light, age-related yellowing.
