5.28.26 MAY ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 411:
Description
A Dietz No. 8 Air Pilot tubular cold-blast kerosene lantern manufactured by the R. E. Dietz Company. The metal frame is constructed with blue paint on the chimney and lateral air tubes, while the base fount features orange paint. The base fount is embossed with the text DIETZ NO. 8 AIR PILOT. The lantern is fitted with a red glass globe protected by a wire guard. Additional components include a top chimney with a wire bail handle, a side-mounted lever used for raising the globe to access the burner, and a threaded fuel filler cap on the fount.
Condition report:
The lantern exhibits heavy surface oxidation, rust, and pitting across all metal components. The blue and orange paint finishes are distressed with significant paint loss and weathering consistent with age and long-term use. The red glass globe appears to be intact without visible cracks. The mechanical functionality of the globe lifter and wick adjustment mechanism has not been tested.
