5.28.26 MAY ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 410:
Description
A pair of vintage tubular cold-blast oil lanterns constructed of metal and clear glass. One lantern features the name PIONEER embossed on the base, a model typically manufactured by the R.E. Dietz Company. The second lantern is similar in form but shows no identifiable manufacturer markings. Both lanterns are equipped with side tubes for air induction, a central chimney, and wire bail handles. The clear glass globes are housed within protective wire guards. One lantern has a dark, fully oxidized surface, while the other retains portions of a grey finish on the upper components. These lanterns are representative of lighting used in railroad and agricultural settings during the 20th century.
Condition report:
Both lanterns exhibit heavy surface rust, pitting, and a dark patina consistent with age and long-term storage. One lantern shows a jagged, broken metal piece on its base assembly. The clear glass globes are intact and appear to be free of major cracks or chips. Internal mechanisms, including wick adjusters and fount integrity, have not been tested.
