Description
A Dietz No. 8 Air Pilot hurricane lantern that has been modified for use as an electric table lamp. The lantern is constructed of metal with a matte black finish and features a clear glass globe protected by a crisscross wire guard. The base of the lantern is embossed with the text No. 8 AIR PILOT on one side and DIETZ and MADE IN U.S.A. on the opposite side. This piece has been electrified with a candelabra-style socket and a flame-shaped bulb installed in place of the original wick burner assembly. It includes an ivory-colored power cord equipped with an inline rotary switch. The lantern retains its original structural features, including the side tubes, vented top cap, and carrying handle.
Condition report:
The lantern shows signs of age and previous use, with surface wear and minor scuffing to the black finish. There are small spots of blue paint residue on the base and upper sections. The glass globe is intact with no observed cracks or significant chips. The electrical conversion appears complete, though the working condition of the lamp and its wiring has not been tested.
