Description

A vintage Western Electric portable field telephone housed in a multi-tiered wooden case. The case is constructed with box-jointed corners reinforced with metal plates and features a top-mounted metal carrying handle. A metal magneto hand crank is mounted to the side of the case. A worn rectangular label on the front contains partial text reading Western Ele and IN U.S. The interior compartment contains a metal-bodied telephone handset with a black cloth-wrapped cord and associated internal wiring and components.


Condition report:

The item shows significant signs of age and use. The wooden case exhibits widespread scuffing, scratches, and finish loss. Metal hardware, including the handle, corners, and crank, shows tarnishing and surface oxidation. The interior components and handset show wear consistent with field use. The functional state of the internal electrical components has not been tested.
