5.28.26 MAY ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 303:
Description
This two-piece miniature glass dish is designed in the form of a duck on a nest, crafted in deep cobalt blue. The lid is modeled as a duck with a textured feather pattern on its body and wings, while the head and neck remain smooth. The corresponding base features a basket-weave textured exterior and a scalloped rim. A notable feature of this item is its intense green fluorescence under ultraviolet light, indicating the glass contains uranium as a coloring or stabilizing agent. This form and color are characteristic of miniature animal-on-nest dishes produced by American manufacturers such as Westmoreland Glass or Boyd’s Crystal Art Glass during the 20th century. No manufacturer marks, logos, or signatures are visible on either component.
Condition report:
The item appears to be in excellent condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or repairs on the lid or the delicate scalloped edges of the base.
