Description
This is a vintage wooden orchard crate, originally used for the transport and storage of fruit or produce. The crate is constructed from weathered wood planks with solid end panels and slatted sides and bottom. The ends feature integrated, rounded cutout handles for manual transport. It is assembled with metal nails and staples. The front face of the crate features stenciled black lettering across two boards reading DOUDNA ORCHARDS over BARNESVILLE, OHIO. A small numeral 48 is stamped into the wood on the left side of the upper front board. A faint manufacturer mark is located at the bottom center of the front face, appearing to identify the maker as Cumberland Case Co. The interior shows a naturally aged surface with accumulated dust and a white residue or paint transfer on one end panel.
Condition report:
The crate shows wear consistent with age and agricultural use. The wood has a naturally aged, gray-brown patina with various scuffs, stains, and minor splintering at the edges. The structure remains intact and sound.
