Description
An assortment of vintage ceramic salt and pepper shakers in the style of mid-century Italian chefs. This collection features multiple pairs of figures with hand-painted details. The largest figures are stylized chefs in a cream glaze, decorated with black mustaches, red cross-stitched collars, red buttons, and green waistbands. The smaller figures include chefs wearing yellow hats with red or blue neckerchiefs marked with an S or P, and chefs with white hats and polka-dot neckerchiefs similarly marked. The figures are constructed from glazed ceramic with cold-painted accents. No maker marks or factory stamps are visible on the exterior of the pieces. These items are typical of mid-20th-century decorative kitchenware, often produced in Japan for the American market.
Condition report:
The collection is in vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The larger chef figures exhibit significant and widespread crazing throughout the glaze. The smaller figures show scattered paint loss, particularly on the hats, hands, and black-painted bases. Minor scuffing and small chips are visible on the feet and bases of the figures. The presence and condition of original stoppers have not been verified.
