Description

This vintage cast iron skillet is part of the National brand produced by the Wagner Manufacturing Company of Sidney, Ohio. The skillet features a standard circular form with two integrated pour spouts and a handle with a teardrop-shaped hanging hole. The base of the skillet is incised with three distinct marks: the word NATIONAL in block lettering on the left side, a stylized center mark featuring WAGNER over SIDNEY over -O-, and the pattern number 1359 B on the right side. The pattern number 1359 identifies this as a size number 9 skillet. The National line was manufactured by Wagner as a secondary, value-oriented line during the 1920s through the 1940s. The piece retains a heavy carbonized patina on the exterior surfaces.

Condition report:

The item is in unrestored, as-found condition. There is significant carbon buildup and heavy encrustation on the exterior walls and base. Visible surface rust and oxidation are present on the underside, specifically within the stamped markings. The interior cooking surface shows evidence of past use with carbonization and minor areas of surface rust. The skillet appears structurally sound without visible cracks or repairs.
