Description
A 19th-century primitive utility bench or low work table of vernacular construction. The piece features a single, thick rectangular wood plank top with rough-hewn edges. It is supported by four splayed and tapered legs joined to the seat via through-tenons. These tenons are visible on the top surface and are secured with wooden wedges. The wood exhibits a dark-stained finish and significant natural grain character. No manufacturer marks, labels, or stamps are present on the piece.
Condition report:
Good antique condition. The wood plank top exhibits significant natural checking and longitudinal cracks consistent with age and thick, single-plank construction. The surface shows various nicks, gouges, and scratches throughout from heavy utilitarian use. The structure remains stable and functional.
