Description
A two-piece set consisting of a blue and white porcelain teapot and a coordinating woven wicker insulation basket. The cylindrical porcelain teapot is decorated in underglaze blue with hand-painted stylized floral motifs and a geometric grid pattern around the shoulder. It features a fitted lid with a central knob and a double-wire bail handle wrapped in natural fiber rope. The basket is of tapered form with a square base, constructed from woven split wicker. The interior and the underside of the lid are heavily padded and lined with a red cotton fabric featuring a repeating pattern of small yellow and green medallions. This type of set was traditionally used for heat retention and portable tea service.
Condition report:
The porcelain teapot is in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations. The rope wrapping on the handle shows minor fraying. The wicker basket displays age-appropriate wear, including minor surface abrasions, light soiling, and small losses to the weave. The textile lining remains intact but shows fading and light signs of use consistent with age.
