5.28.26 MAY ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 285:
Description
This item is a vintage hand-operated miniature butter churn featuring a square-form cobalt blue glass jar as its base. The top assembly is constructed of cast iron with an exposed gear mechanism and a horizontal crank arm fitted with a turned wooden handle. While the glass base exhibits faint embossed details on its sides, no specific manufacturer marks, model numbers, or patent dates are clearly legible on the glass or the metal housing. The internal components consist of a vertical drive shaft connected to the external gear system. This design is highly characteristic of the Dazey Churn Company model No. 10.
Condition report:
The cast iron mechanism shows significant surface oxidation and corrosion throughout. The wooden handle is intact but exhibits staining and moderate surface wear. The cobalt blue glass jar appears to be in good structural condition without visible cracks or large chips, though some light shelf wear is present on the bottom surface. The mechanical movement was not tested for full functionality.
