Description
This is a two-piece figural covered dish, commonly referred to as a Hen on Nest, attributed to the Indiana Glass Company. The item is manufactured from pressed glass with a ruby red flashed finish applied over a yellow-amber glass base. The upper lid is molded in the shape of a nesting hen with defined feather textures, comb, and wattles. The lower nest portion features a basketweave design and a distinctive beaded rim. While circular recessed areas are present on the interior of the lid and the exterior bottom of the base, no maker’s marks, symbols, or signatures are legible.
Condition report:
The item displays notable loss to the red flashed finish. Significant portions of the red coating have peeled or flaked away from the interior and exterior bottom of the nest base, revealing the yellow-amber glass beneath. Minor finish wear is visible on the interior of the hen lid. There are no chips, cracks, or structural repairs visible in the glass body.
