Description
An assortment of souvenir and novelty salt and pepper shakers in various materials including ceramic, wood, glass, and metal. The collection features numerous travel and commemorative themes. Visible printed text and motifs include Wisconsin bears, Oklahoma Turnpike wooden bowling pins, The 1982 World’s Fair Knoxville Tennessee, Walt Disney World, Alaska bells with bird imagery, Bahamas dolphins, and Scenic Brown County Nashville Indiana. Notable forms include miniature mugs, bells, brown pitchers inscribed Country Music Hall of Fame Nashville Tennessee, and large ceramic shakers modeled as sacks labeled SALT and PEPPER. The group contains a set of blue glass bottle shakers in a Clearly Canadian cardboard carrier and a metal set on a tray marked ARIZONA. Several ceramic pieces feature iridescent glazes or gold-toned rims.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying degrees of surface wear consistent with age and domestic use. There is visible residue and salt crystallization around the dispensing holes of several shakers, most notably on the Bahamas set. Minor fading to graphics and light scuffs to the wooden bowling pins are present. The cardboard carrier for the glass bottles exhibits shelf wear and minor creasing.
