Description
A footed glass compote executed in red and white marbleized slag glass. The vessel features a flaring bowl with a deeply ruffled and crimped rim, tapering to a short cylindrical stem and a circular foot. The glass body displays a vibrant swirl of ruby red and opaque white, with localized areas of orange. An embossed mark on the center of the base underside depicts a crow in flight through a capital letter “A.” This trademark identifies the piece as a product of the Akro Agate Company of Clarksburg, West Virginia, active between 1911 and 1951. The piece is manufactured using a pressed glass technique.
Condition report:
Several small dark inclusions, likely carbon or ash from the manufacturing process, are visible trapped within the glass on the interior bottom of the bowl and near the rim (photo 4). The underside of the foot shows light surface scratching and shelf wear consistent with age and use (photo 5). No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on the ruffled rim or the body of the compote (photos 1, 2, and 3).
