Description
vintage novelty salt and pepper shakers and associated souvenir items. The collection includes a tall Leaning Tower of Pisa pepper mill crafted from cream-colored molded resin with a gold-tone metal grinding mechanism and crank handle. A pair of white glazed earthenware foot-shaped shakers features red-painted toenails and hand-painted black lettering reading OZARKS and RAT. The set also includes two hand-painted ceramic hamburger shakers, a pair of hand-painted ceramic grape bunch shakers housed in a small woven wicker basket with a red and white checkered liner, and a pair of yellow-glazed ceramic teddy bear shakers with black-painted bow ties. Additionally, there is a pair of shakers made from natural wood log sections with bark intact, two small white glazed ceramic souvenir pitchers with one featuring a landscape scene and the inscription VAN WERT OHIO, and a two-piece yellow glazed ceramic set that fits together to form a teapot. The collection is rounded out by a small dark-finished cast metal donkey figurine featuring molded saddlebags and the cast lettering MISSOURI.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is minor paint loss and surface abrasions on the hand-painted pieces, particularly on the red toenails of the foot shakers and the sesame seeds on the hamburgers. The metal components of the pepper mill exhibit some oxidation and surface wear to the gold-tone finish. General surface grime is present. The ceramic components appear free of significant chips or cracks. Most stoppers are present.
