6.25.26 JUNE ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 45:
Sold for: $60
Description
This lidded candy dish or small compote is crafted from deep cobalt blue pressed glass. The piece is decorated in the Moon and Star pattern, originally known as Star and Punty, which features large circular indentations known as moons and smaller pressed compass-rose motifs known as stars arranged in a repeating sequence. The bowl is footed with a flared pedestal base that mirrors the pattern and features a scalloped rim. The matching domed lid is similarly decorated and topped with a multi-faceted decorative finial. While this pattern was originally produced in the 19th century, this cobalt blue version is attributed to the L.E. Smith Glass Company from the mid-20th century. There are no visible maker’s marks on the interior or exterior of the glass.
Condition report:
The item appears to be in excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or significant flea bites are visible on the scalloped rims of the bowl or the lid. The pedestal base and the decorative finial show no signs of repair or impact damage. The glass retains a high gloss and deep, uniform color saturation.
