Description
This vintage hand-quilted patchwork scrap quilt features a traditional Nine-Patch geometric design. The quilt top is constructed from various cotton fabric scraps, including red and blue ginghams, small-scale floral prints, calicos, and solid colors. These small squares are arranged into three-by-three grids (Nine-Patch blocks) which alternate with larger solid white and patterned blocks. The quilt is hand-quilted throughout in a simple straight-line grid pattern. The backing is composed of a solid off-white cotton fabric. The overall construction is characteristic of mid-20th century American utility or folk quilting, often utilizing repurposed textiles such as feed sacks. No labels, signatures, or maker marks are visible. The quilt has a soft, puckered texture resulting from multiple launderings.
Condition report:
The quilt is in fair to good vintage condition with evidence of age and significant use. There is noticeable yellowing and scattered staining across the surface, particularly on the white panels and the backing fabric. The edges show fraying and wear, with some areas of the binding having thinned or detached. There are no large tears or major structural failures observed, though the overall appearance reflects a well-used domestic item.
