Description

This three seat sofa is constructed from solid teak wood and features extensive hand carved decoration. The style is characteristic of Southeast Asian woodcraft traditions, specifically resembling work from Thailand or Bali. The backrest is composed of a continuous panel of high relief narrative carving depicting a detailed rural village scene. Elements of the scene include traditional stilt houses with thatched roofs, palm trees, mountain silhouettes, and villagers engaged in labor alongside water buffalo. The armrests are similarly decorated with carved village scenes, and the lower rail features a series of floral and geometric motifs. The frame rests on four cabriole legs with carved knees and scrolled feet. The seating consists of three removable rectangular cushions upholstered in a vibrant red fabric with a textured, embossed chevron pattern. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible.

Approximate Dimensions: Not provided.

Condition report:

The sofa is in good overall condition. The wooden frame exhibits minor surface wear including light scuffs, small dings, and surface scratches consistent with age and use, primarily located along the lower rail and feet. The intricate relief carvings are well preserved and appear largely intact. The upholstered cushions are clean and show no significant signs of wear, staining, or structural damage.
