Description

This cast iron skillet was manufactured by the Lodge Manufacturing Co. of South Pittsburg, Tennessee. The item is made of sand-cast iron and features a traditional circular form with two integrated pour spouts on opposite sides of the rim. The handle is designed with a teardrop-shaped hanging hole. The base of the skillet features a raised three-notch heat ring, a design characteristic with breaks located at the 9, 12, and 3 o’clock positions relative to the handle. Several incised markings are present on the base, including the number 8, the letters SK, and the phrase MADE IN USA, which indicates a manufacturing date after the mid-1960s. Additionally, a single letter D is incised near the bottom edge of the base, and another number 8 is visible on the underside near the handle junction.

Condition report:

The skillet is in as-found condition with heavy surface rust and oxidation covering both the interior and exterior surfaces. The interior cooking surface shows visible pitting from corrosion. There are no structural cracks or chips visible in the metal. The item requires a complete restoration, including stripping and re-seasoning, before it can be used for food preparation.
