Description

This commemorative custard glass plate was produced by the Fenton Art Glass Company for Mother’s Day in 1980. The plate is made of opaque creamy-yellow glass that exhibits a bright neon-green fluorescence under ultraviolet light, confirming the presence of uranium in the glass batch. It features a scalloped pie crust rim decorated with a hand-painted orange-peach band. The center of the plate is decorated with a hand-painted scene depicting a small brown bird perched on a branch with green leaves and light peach blossoms. Below the illustration is the hand-painted script inscription Mother’s Day 1980 in black. The reverse of the plate bears two handwritten inscriptions in black ink: the artist’s signature Hand painted by C Shaffer and a gift inscription reading gift from Aunt Anna Luthy.

Condition report:

The plate is in good vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The hand-painted decoration is well-preserved with no significant wear. There is some minor surface marking on the reverse near the gift inscription.
