6.25.26 JUNE ANTIQUE & GLASS AUCTION
Lot 150:
Description
A vintage advertising collectible nut dish featuring the Planters Peanuts mascot, Mr. Peanut. The piece is constructed from two components of painted cast iron, joined by a single slotted screw located in the center of the basin. The figure is modeled in a three-dimensional form wearing a black top hat, monocle, and holding a cane, positioned behind a shallow tray shaped like a peanut shell. The front edge of the base tray is embossed with the text MR. PEANUT. The interior of the dish and the exterior of the peanut shell base feature a textured surface intended to mimic the appearance of a real peanut.
Condition report:
The item is in well-used vintage condition with significant and widespread paint loss. Wear is most prominent on the high points of the casting, including the top hat, shoulders, and the rim of the base tray. The exposed metal surfaces show a dark patina and minor surface oxidation. The original yellow paint has aged to a mustard-like tone and displays various chips and scuffs consistent with long-term use. The metal casting appears structurally sound with no visible cracks or repairs.
