Lot 129:
Description
A miniature terrestrial globe desk accessory featuring an integrated pencil sharpening mechanism. The item is constructed with a cast metal stand finished in an antiqued bronze tone and a color-lithographed globe. The globe is mounted on a rotating axis within a meridian arc displaying incised degree markers, which is set into a circular horizon ring. The tripod stand features three turned legs joined to a central hexagonal base that houses the sharpener. The globe depicts an old world style map with Italian text, including labels such as Mare, Asia, Tartaria, and Tropiche de Capricorno. The map is further decorated with illustrations of sea creatures and sailing vessels. A small, blank rectangular metal plate is attached to the front of the base.
Approximately 3.75 inches in height.
Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition with minor surface wear and rubbing to the metal finish consistent with age and use. The lithographed globe surface remains bright and glossy with no significant scratches or fading. The internal sharpening mechanism is present and appears functional, though it has not been tested with a pencil.
