6.2.26 LARGE COLLECTIBLE ONLINE ONLY AUCTION
Lot 84:
Description
This lot consists of six vintage molded ceramic items featuring elephant motifs, primarily used as novelty planters and decorative figurines. The pieces are constructed from glazed earthenware and showcase a variety of mid-20th-century finishing techniques including hand-painting, airbrushing, and dipping. The collection includes a rectangular planter depicting a stylized elephant head and a mouse character reminiscent of Dumbo and Timothy Q. Mouse, finished with airbrushed grey, tan, and yellow glazes. A large standing elephant planter features a mottled brown and grey glaze with a yellow-glazed saddle area. A second large elephant planter is finished in a blue glaze with pink accents on the ears and saddle. The assortment also includes a ball-shaped circus elephant figurine with a white base glaze and hand-painted accents in red, blue, and yellow; a small elephant planter in a solid pink glaze; and a white elephant figurine standing on a rectangular plinth with light blue and pink glazed harness details. No maker marks or factory stamps are visible on any of the items.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Visible surface grime and dust are present, particularly on the trunk of the elephant and mouse planter. The interior of one planter shows mineral deposits and discoloration from previous use. No major chips, cracks, or repairs are evident. Fine glaze crazing, typical for ceramics of this period, may be present.
