Description
An antique fruit, lard, and sausage press manufactured by the Griswold Manufacturing Company of Erie, Pennsylvania. This size No. 0 model features a heavy cast iron frame supported by three legs with pre-drilled holes for secure mounting. The press is operated by a central threaded screw mechanism controlled by a cast iron cross-handle. It consists of a solid outer metal cylinder with an embossed Griswold cross logo and a perforated inner metal basket designed for straining. The base includes an integrated pouring spout. The plunger plate is embossed with THE GRISWOLD MFG CO ERIE PA USA NO. 0. The cast iron crossbar also bears the embossed mark NO. 0.
Condition report:
The item shows a dark, aged patina consistent with historical use. Significant surface oxidation and rust are present throughout the cast iron frame, handle, and cylinders. There is wear and minor pitting to the metal surfaces. The screw mechanism appears functional but exhibits surface corrosion.
