Description
This two-piece decorative item, commonly known as a fairy lamp or candle lamp, is crafted from opaque lime green custard glass. The design features a Maize or Corn pattern, consisting of a cylindrical shade with a textured hobnail surface modeled after an ear of corn and a circular opening at the top for heat ventilation. The base is styled as a footed corn husk with a scalloped rim. Under ultraviolet light, the glass exhibits a strong, bright green fluorescence, confirming the presence of uranium in the glass batch. While similar novelty items were produced by mid-century American manufacturers such as Degenhart Crystal Art Glass, a definitive maker cannot be identified as the circular molded mark on the underside of the base is not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible. Typical manufacturing artifacts associated with pressed opaque glass, such as mold seams and slight variations in the glass slurry, are present. Minor shelf wear is visible on the underside of the foot.
