Description

An antique primitive lidded wooden firkin, also referred to as a sugar bucket. The vessel features a cylindrical body of stave construction secured by two patinated metal hoops. It is fitted with a circular wooden lid topped by a turned wooden finial. A steam-bent wooden swing handle is attached to the sides of the bucket and secured with wooden pegs. The piece displays a dark, aged finish with visible grain consistent with a hardwood such as oak. The interior shows the natural wood and stave assembly. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the item.

Condition report:

The firkin is in good condition consistent with its age and utilitarian history. The wooden surfaces exhibit scattered scuffs, minor scratches, and general shelf wear. The metal bands show a natural patina and surface oxidation. The lid fits securely and the swing handle remains fully functional.
